Quick answer
A high school basketball court is 84 feet long and 50 feet wide, or 4,200 square feet. The rim is 10 feet high, the lane is 12 feet wide, and the 3-point line is 19 feet 9 inches from the center of the basket.

High school basketball court size
The NFHS court diagram gives an optimum length of 84 feet (28 yards) and an optimum width of 50 feet. That makes a high school court 10 feet shorter than an NBA or college court, at the same width.
High school court measurements
| Marking | Measurement |
|---|---|
| Court | 84 × 50 ft |
| Half court | 42 × 50 ft |
| Rim height | 10 ft |
| Rim diameter | 18 in |
| Backboard | 4 ft inside the end line |
| Center of basket | 63 in from the end line |
| Free-throw line | 15 ft from the backboard, 19 ft from the end line to its outside edge |
| Lane width | 12 ft |
| 3-point line | 19 ft 9 in from the center of the basket to the outside edge |
| Center and free-throw circles | 6 ft radius to the outside edge |
| Line width | 2 in |
Smaller high school and middle school courts
Older and smaller gyms may be shorter than 84 feet. The NFHS diagram says a court less than 74 feet long should be divided by two lines, each 40 feet from the farther end line. For players ages 9–11, USA Basketball and the NBA recommend a 74 × 50 ft court.
Space around the court
The NFHS diagram calls for at least 3 feet of clear space outside the lines, and preferably 10 feet. If 3 feet isn't possible, it says to mark a narrow broken line 3 feet inside the boundary. Its diagram is suggested, and the layout of a real gym also depends on local codes.
